Flashback: Valencia CF sole Spanish winners against Lille in France
Valencia CF have crossed paths with Lille on four occasions in the last decade, and hold a positive record against the French side. Facing them at the Pierre Mauroy may be a tricky task, but Albert Celades' side can draw on a promising statistic from the past ten years.

The club are the only LaLiga outfit to have beaten Lille at their home ground. They did so on December 5th, 2012, with a 0-1 victory thanks to a Jonas penalty. The fixture was the finale of the 2012/2013 group stage, and the 3 points earned VCF a place in the knockout rounds. They would also emerge victorious in the earlier game, at Mestalla, with Jonas scoring a brace in that one.

Two further meetings have taken place in the UEFA Europa League, in 2009/10. Valencia CF won 3-1 at Mestalla and drew in Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Lille have avoided defeat at home against three Spanish teams in European competition, winning against Sevilla and holding both Villarreal and Deportivo La Coruña to draws.
